Tax Service in Clintonville

      On-the-Mark is the invention of attorney Mark Dent.  While Mark was serving in the Army, he was assigned to run a tax center for the 10^th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, New York.  Fort Drum assigned him 12 soldiers; most had never prepared their own taxes.  Mark trained these soldiers and prepared them for the tax season.  The soldiers did a phenomenal job and 5,800 tax returns were prepared, returning $12 million in refunds to the soldiers at Fort Drum. 

      While Mark was running the tax center, he discovered how other tax services refused to reveal their prices until after the taxes were prepared.  He thought it was about time a tax service put the clients first and decided he would open his own tax office once he finished his commitment to the military. 

      Mark went on to become the prosecuting attorney for the Combat Aviation Brigade at Fort Drum, trying 16 cases including three jury trials.  He completed his military commitment, and moved to Columbus with his wife Joanie in July of this 2006. 

      Mark and Joanie decided they would open a tax office, and they created a business plan for On-the-Mark Tax Service. They rented a room at Columbus State Community College in the fall of this year and offered an eight-week tax course.  Of the 30 applicants, four became certified as tax professionals and are now qualified to prepare taxes in his office.
